Classification of Arkansas Wetlands
There are 5 basic Hydrogeomorphic Classes represented in the state. These classes are based on the fundamental ways in which water moves into the wetland, how long it stays, and how it leaves. These hydrologic variables are often tied to the landscape position of the wetland: whether it is in the five-year floodplain, on the side of a slope, etc. Each Class is further divided into Subclasses and Community Types.
