Riverine
Riverine wetlands are those areas directly flooded by streamflow, including backwater or overbank flow, at least once in five years on average (i.e. they are within the five-year floodplain). Depressions and fringe wetlands that are within the five-year floodplain are not included in the Riverine Class, but beaver ponds and wildlife management impoundments are usually considered to be riverine. Riverine wetlands encompass many different types of wetland communities; there are five subclasses and nine community types in the Riverine Class. To learn more about subclasses, click here. To skip that step, click directly on any of the community types listed below. Click here for a view of the entire classification.
