Arkansas Wetland Planning Regions
For the purposes of wetland classification and description, we use five major Wetland
Planning Regions that are designated to reflect major variations in climate, geology,
topography, soils, and vegetation within the state. Many wetland types are restricted to
one or two of these regions. Many others occur in multiple regions, but may support somewhat
different groups of plants and animals in each region. The five Wetland Planning Regions are
listed below, and shown on the state map. Link to a region on the list, or on the map, to learn more
about it and to find links to major wetland types that occur there.
Delta
Coastal Plain
Arkansas River Valley
Ozark Mountains
